Sunday, December 6 2015

Good afternoon everyone:

Nice turn out this morning at the Canadian Motor Hotel for our December Meet and Greet.  Members that showed up today were: from Laird; Terry and Noella, from Goulais; Brent and Dana, from the Sault; Christopher, Audee, Brenda, Karen and Wayne, and Shane and Sara.

It was great to see everyone again and get together for coffee, breakfast and a chat.  Thumbs up to Chris, Brent and Dana who rode their bikes thanks to the unseasonably warm December weather we've been having.

Hope to see everyone at our Christmas Party Friday, December 18th.  If you haven't already confirmed your participation, contact DD (bandnichollsattgmaildottcom) before December 11th.

Rider's choice leads to Hwy 552

Tuesday, September 1 2015

Tuesday night CMC members met at the new A&W on GNR north of Second Line prior to their mid - week ride. EchoBay, MrsEchoBay, Buck, and Drifter were joined by our newest member, KarenM.  Also joining the group for some pre - ride chat were Kranky (on his way to work) and Kee (on her way home from work).

After introduction all round, it was Drifter's choice to ride a Hwys 17 north, 556, 552, 17 south loop. Leading the way, Drifter set a pace that balanced the group's experienced riders with our newest member's first group riding experience.  The route is one of Drifter's favourites with its numerous downhill twists and turns on 552 as it descends into the Belleview Valley.

The ride was an excellent opportunity for KarenM to enjoy a mix of highway riding and backroad cruising and a chance to ascend Mile Hill with its wind turbines like sentinels standing along the south ridge.

Returning to our A&W starting point, we stopped for a chow and chat session and by 9 pm we went our separate ways.

It was great having KarenM join us and also to have Buck riding with us again.

A reminder to everyone that there are only 7 more scheduled rides this season.

Riding with an old friend

Sunday, August 30 2015

Well Sunday's ride turned out great with a surprise guest, Timid (Rob) who came up to visit Friday and decided to join us on the ride for part of the way as he headed back home. Timid was a founding member of CMCSSM032 before moving to south eastern Ontario. We escorted him out to Bruce Mines then said our goodbyes before continuing on the rest of our ride.  It's always nice to see out - of - town members of the CMC family and reconnect with old friends.

We rode through the back country behind Bruce Mines.  It was a beautiful day with the leaves starting to turn different colours, the smell of freshly cut hay in the air, cows grazing and mini horses running in the fields.  Part way along, we stopped for 20 minutes at a local park for a rest stop to stretch and have a washroom break.

We continued on for the rest of our ride ending back at Hwy 17 west. From there, we proceeded over to Bucci's Restaurant in Echo Bay were everyone was treated to some complimentary appetizers from the owner, Marco. After most of the group enjoyed lunch from the $8.95 all - you - can - eat buffet, we headed back to the Sault and Brewster and Kido headed to Goulais River.

Wow! What a great day for a ride .

On today's ride were: Brewster, Kido, Kranky, Professore, Hooleo, FBI, MrsEchoBay, EchoBay and guests BP and Timid.

Before leaving the Sault, Spike came out to meet us at the Husky and say hi.  Spike was working so he wasn't able to join us on our ride.  Also stopping by was our newest member, KarenM who rides a 650 Yamaha VStar.  She was unable to join us for the Bruce Mines ride but was excited to be a member of CMC, meet some of the local CMC members and is looking forward to joining the group another day.  Welcome to the CMC family KarenM.

So it was another great day spent with our CMC chapter members. For those of you that couldn't make it, maybe next time.

Just a reminder!! We only have 8 scheduled chapter rides left this year.  If you haven't been able to make it out so far this year, you might want to soon, before we're done for the season.

Old familiar route, new stop

Sunday, August 23 2015

Today we headed to St. Joseph Island.

We waited until 11:15 am at the Husky East then headed out for our ride.  After cruising the four - lane to Hwy. 548 and the island turnoff, we followed 548 east from the four corners towards Hilton Beach.  At the Hilton Road we turned right riding past Twin Lakes, Busy Beaver Campground and All Tribes Camp until we intersected Hwy. 548 on the other side of the island. Turning right again, we rode under a maple tree canopy past historic Holy Trinity Anglican church built in 1882, Crowder and Gilbertson maple syrup operations, around Sailors Encampment past another historic church - Church of Mary built in 1879 - to Richards Landing. From the Landing, we continued out of town and back to the four corner and the bridge road.

There we made a first time stop at Mom's Restaurant for lunch. While we were there, we had a surprise visit from Buck and JoJo who stopped in to say hi and share a few laughs.  Buck had us all laughing all the time he was there. He sure in hell hasn't lost his sense of humour.  It was nice to get to visit a little with them as they have been unable to join us for awhile.
After we were finished lunch, we continued chatting with Buck outside before we headed for home.

Our timing was pretty close to being right on considering we were only home 1/2 an hour before it started to rain.

On today's ride were: EchoBay, MrsEchoBay, Drifter, Dusty, Fuzzy, Hooleo and guest B.P.

It was nice to see the members that came out and enjoyed the ride.
For those of you that couldn't make it today maybe you can make to our next ride on Tuesday August 25th  2015 *** Weather Permitting  ***.

US ride to Whitefish Point

Sunday, August 16 2015

Sunday's ride into the US was exciting as always.

We met at our OLG casino at 8:45 am - Vic, Kranky, Rosey, Needles, DD,
MrsEchoBay, EchoBay and Dusty who came with his car to follow the group. Mary B. was in town with her daughter visiting and came to see us off. It was nice to see her again. After Needles gave a brief outline of our trip, we were ready to hit the road.

At 9:00 am, we left for the States, where we met up with Hooleo & Bonnie at the gas bar where we all filled up. We took off on our adventure with Needles as Road Captain and DD as his copilot and our tail gunner, Kranky and his copilot Rosey bringing up the rear. Dusty followed in his car.

We rode together watching for any critters that might be in our way and there were a few but they were frozen in time to put it politely. The weather was great;  a little cloudy which made it perfect for riding with our leathers on.

After we arrived in Paradise, Michigan, Needles pulled over at a gas bar so everyone could get a pop or coffee and relax for a few minutes. Once everyone had finished their drink, we continued on to Whitefish Point Light.

When we arrived, it was interesting to see all the artifacts that they had from ships and the lighthouse and to enjoy some yummy treats at the Fudge Shop.  The view from the beach was very nice with children swimming and people using metal detectors to try and find buried treasure.

After some picture - taking, sharing a few laughs and camaraderie, we left Whitefish Point and Needles lead us back to Paradise where we had lunch at the Berry Patch Bakery and Restaurant. The food was scrumptious,  prices good,  service great and it was air conditioned. So much so, that after enjoying our meal we headed outside to get some heat. (LOL) At great place, this will be a "must stop" for our chapter on future rides to Paradise.

After a few minutes of chatting outside, we got ready to head back home.
While riding back, however, we were stopped by a large tree that had fallen across the road blocking it completely. We pulled over and proceeded to help the folks that were stranded on the other side. Between our CMC members and others there, we were able to move the tree by breaking branches, brute strength and using a tie down to pull the tree with a truck. With it moved enough to allow passage, we were on our way again.

Once with most of our rides, the scenery was great and our members fantastic.  When we arrived in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan, we filled our tanks again and Needles, DD, Kranky and Rosey left as three of them were working nights.

I can't say enough about this Sunday ride. We saw some beautiful country, had some great food, enjoyed each other's company and also lent a hand as a chapter when it was needed. What a great day!

CMC SSM032 and SUDBURY049 Joint Ride

Saturday, July 11 2015

Members of CMCSSM032 rode east Saturday morning to Blind River to meet CMC riders from the Sudbury049 chapter.  The meet up had been planned as part of Sudbury's weekend ride to Sault Ste. Marie.

After lunch together at the Lakeview Inn and watching the Blind River Community Day parade, the group split into two for the ride to St. Joseph Island.  CMCSSM032 first officer, EchoBay had arranged to lead the group on a ride around the scenic island with a stop and tour of historic Fort St. Joseph before continuing on to the village of Hilton Beach where reservations for dinner had been arranged.  After dinner, the group rode to Richards Landing for a round of ice cream cones for dessert.  Thanks to the members of Sudbury049 for generously picking up the tab.

Following the St. Joseph Island tour, the group headed to Sault Ste. Marie about 8:45 pm where those from Sudbury had accommodations arranged.

Participants in the joint outing from Sudbury were Kathy and Jean, Mike and Cecile, Rick and Lynda, Greg and Roberta, Henry and Reg and Shirley who joined the group for lunch.

From SSM, participants were Terry and Noella, Brent and Dana, Shane and Sara, Kim and Christine, Luc and Aline, Andy, Jordan, Chris, Wayne and guest riders Mike, Todd and Mike.

Sudbury first officer, Kathy described the outing as an "awesome day" where "beautiful scenery was only surpassed by the exceptional company".

Everyone agreed it was a great outing, one that both groups will be talking about for quite awhile.

Sunday ride to Wawa and return

Sunday, June 12 2015

The ride to Wawa Sunday provided the group a good opportunity to put some miles under them and check out the scenery north of the Sault.  Blue skies and warm temperatures provided excellent riding conditions.

Our visit to Wawa included a stop at Young's historic general store, the refurbished waterfront and Mona's Kitchen where everyone was impressed with their meals and the fast service.  After fuelling up, we headed home with stops at Old Woman Bay and the Carver to relieve numb bum, stretch our legs and cool off with an ice cream cone.

The south bound trip provided an excellent opportunity for those who had never experienced the beauty of Superior North to enjoy the scenery and winding road which makes this a "must ride" route for motorcycle enthusiasts.  Coming into Old Woman Bay temperatures were 12 degrees cooler than the 28C 4 kms further down the road causing the headlands to be shrouded in fog and mist of the water.

With comments like "great company, great weather and great roads", "best CMC ride I've been on" and "life is sweet", the Wawa ride was a winner for EchoBay, MrsEchoBay, Hooleo and guest Bonnie, Needles, DD, FBI and Drifter who took part.

Joint CMC Sudbury - Sault Ste. Marie ride

Saturday, July 11 2015

MARK THE DATE! - Saturday, July 11 2015

Hi Sault Ste. Marie CMC Chapter Members

The 1st officer of CMC Chapter 049 in Sudbury is planning a ride to
St. Joseph Island on Saturday, July 11 2015 and would like to join up with ALL of our CMC Chapter 032 members and ride around the Island together.
It should be a lot of fun riding and meeting other CMC members as well as a chance to make new friends and sow the seeds for future joint rides.

I will be leading the ride around the Island which will include a stop at Fort St. Joseph for the tour, a meal in Hilton Beach and wrap up in Richards Landing for ice cream.

Let's have a good turnout and show the folks from Sudbury a great time. If you are only able to ride with the chapter once this summer, make it July 11th.

I need a definite "yes" from all those CMC 032 chapter members who will be joining the ride.  Let's show everyone how committed CMC 032 members are.

I would appreciate a reply from everyone as soon as possible so we can make restaurant reservations.

First ride of the season - Stobies' in Desbarats

Hi everyone

Sunday's ride turned out nice with the sun was shining and no rain.  Because it was the first ride of the season, we took a nice easy ride out to Stobies Restaurant in Desbarats east of the Sault.

We all had something warm to drink, food and a little chit chat. When it was time to head back, we came home through the back roads behind Desbarats.

CMC chapter members out for this Sunday's ride were: Drifter, Buck, Professore, Kranky, Rosey, Hooleo, MrsEchoBay, & EchoBay and we were joined by special guest "Miss Bonnie".

It was again nice to see everyone that was able to make it out for the ride.

For those of you that had to work, we missed you and hope you will be able to join us on our next planned outing Tuesday, May 5th 2015.

Spring weather brings out large turnout for final winter Meet and Greet

Sunday, April 26 2014

Good afternoon everyone

Well today was our last meet and greet of the winter at the Canadian Motor Hotel and what a great turnout. Members who showed up were: T2 & Karen, DD & Needles, Kranky & Rosey, Buck & Joanne, Wolverine, Mongo, Vic, Professore, Pinky & Real, and MrsEchoBay & EchoBay for a total of 15 chapter members and 1 guest.

It was really nice to see everyone that showed up considering it was raining a little when we arrived. Wolverine, Professore, Needles, & Echo Bay all rode their bikes and agreed, although it was a little cool and damp it was a good ride.

We all enjoyed some hot coffee / chocolate and some food then caught up on what was going on with everyone. Pinky introduced Real who is looking forward to joining our chapter and riding with us .
Next Sunday, May 3rd, if we have nice weather, we will have our first ride of 2015.

For those of you that couldn't make it today, hopefully you'll be able to make it Sunday, weather permitting.

Thank you to all those that showed today.  It was great to see you all there.  With the warming temperatures, hopefully we'll now start getting some good riding weather.

Small Meet and Greet gathering as winter drags on

Sunday March 29 2015

Winter's continued hold on the weather and new bikes were topics of conversation between EchoBay, MrsEchoBay, Pinky, Drifter and Kranky and Rosey who were joined by their granddaughter at this morning's March CMCSSM032 Meet and Greet.

Kranky and Rosey informed those in attendance that they would be attending the 2015 CMC National Rally which will be held in historic Kingston from July 31 to August 3, 2015 and questioned whether any other CMCSSM032 members were thinking of attending.

With the spring melt begun and daytime temperatures now on the plus side of 0, it shouldn't be long before we're riding again.  Watch for email or blog updates but if winter continues its grip through April plan to attend the next CMCSSM032 Meet and Greet, Sunday April 26 at the Canadian Motor Inn.

Great to see those who were out today and hope to see more members as spring finally arrives.

Light turnout for February meet and greet

Sunday February 22 2015

Hi Everyone

Yesterday's turnout was good considering the weather we've been having and many folks coming down with colds and flu.

Members out were EchoBay and MrsEchoBay, DD, Drifter and Kee, Kranky and Rosey, Twister, Jamie and Brian, a friend of Kranky and Rosey.  There was the usual chatter about the weather, winter travels, bike replacements and everyone got a peak at the 2015 ride schedule.

Kranky was presented his Tail Gunner patch and Jamie informed the group of some upcoming charity rides and opportunities to test ride Honda and Harley Davidson motorcycles in the Sault this summer.

Nice to see those that showed up for the meet and greet today.  Next one is Sunday March 29 at 11am at the Canadian Motor Inn on Pim Street.

In the meantime, I hope this weather really disappears soon.

First meet and greet of the new year

Sunday January 25 2015

Today's first meet and greet of 2015 was great. Nice to see everyone after the holidays again.

Those at today's gathering were Needles and DD, Twister and Carol, Smitty and Karen, Kranky and Rosey, Ruth and Brian, Drifter, Pinky, Mongo, MrsEchoBay and EchoBay.

It was a pleasant time with folks smiling and joking together .

For all of those members that weren't able to make it today to this first meet and greet of 2015, I hope you will be able to make it to the next one on February 22.
