Old familiar route, new stop

Sunday, August 23 2015

Today we headed to St. Joseph Island.

We waited until 11:15 am at the Husky East then headed out for our ride.  After cruising the four - lane to Hwy. 548 and the island turnoff, we followed 548 east from the four corners towards Hilton Beach.  At the Hilton Road we turned right riding past Twin Lakes, Busy Beaver Campground and All Tribes Camp until we intersected Hwy. 548 on the other side of the island. Turning right again, we rode under a maple tree canopy past historic Holy Trinity Anglican church built in 1882, Crowder and Gilbertson maple syrup operations, around Sailors Encampment past another historic church - Church of Mary built in 1879 - to Richards Landing. From the Landing, we continued out of town and back to the four corner and the bridge road.

There we made a first time stop at Mom's Restaurant for lunch. While we were there, we had a surprise visit from Buck and JoJo who stopped in to say hi and share a few laughs.  Buck had us all laughing all the time he was there. He sure in hell hasn't lost his sense of humour.  It was nice to get to visit a little with them as they have been unable to join us for awhile.
After we were finished lunch, we continued chatting with Buck outside before we headed for home.

Our timing was pretty close to being right on considering we were only home 1/2 an hour before it started to rain.

On today's ride were: EchoBay, MrsEchoBay, Drifter, Dusty, Fuzzy, Hooleo and guest B.P.

It was nice to see the members that came out and enjoyed the ride.
For those of you that couldn't make it today maybe you can make to our next ride on Tuesday August 25th  2015 *** Weather Permitting  ***.

US ride to Whitefish Point

Sunday, August 16 2015

Sunday's ride into the US was exciting as always.

We met at our OLG casino at 8:45 am - Vic, Kranky, Rosey, Needles, DD,
MrsEchoBay, EchoBay and Dusty who came with his car to follow the group. Mary B. was in town with her daughter visiting and came to see us off. It was nice to see her again. After Needles gave a brief outline of our trip, we were ready to hit the road.

At 9:00 am, we left for the States, where we met up with Hooleo & Bonnie at the gas bar where we all filled up. We took off on our adventure with Needles as Road Captain and DD as his copilot and our tail gunner, Kranky and his copilot Rosey bringing up the rear. Dusty followed in his car.

We rode together watching for any critters that might be in our way and there were a few but they were frozen in time to put it politely. The weather was great;  a little cloudy which made it perfect for riding with our leathers on.

After we arrived in Paradise, Michigan, Needles pulled over at a gas bar so everyone could get a pop or coffee and relax for a few minutes. Once everyone had finished their drink, we continued on to Whitefish Point Light.

When we arrived, it was interesting to see all the artifacts that they had from ships and the lighthouse and to enjoy some yummy treats at the Fudge Shop.  The view from the beach was very nice with children swimming and people using metal detectors to try and find buried treasure.

After some picture - taking, sharing a few laughs and camaraderie, we left Whitefish Point and Needles lead us back to Paradise where we had lunch at the Berry Patch Bakery and Restaurant. The food was scrumptious,  prices good,  service great and it was air conditioned. So much so, that after enjoying our meal we headed outside to get some heat. (LOL) At great place, this will be a "must stop" for our chapter on future rides to Paradise.

After a few minutes of chatting outside, we got ready to head back home.
While riding back, however, we were stopped by a large tree that had fallen across the road blocking it completely. We pulled over and proceeded to help the folks that were stranded on the other side. Between our CMC members and others there, we were able to move the tree by breaking branches, brute strength and using a tie down to pull the tree with a truck. With it moved enough to allow passage, we were on our way again.

Once with most of our rides, the scenery was great and our members fantastic.  When we arrived in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan, we filled our tanks again and Needles, DD, Kranky and Rosey left as three of them were working nights.

I can't say enough about this Sunday ride. We saw some beautiful country, had some great food, enjoyed each other's company and also lent a hand as a chapter when it was needed. What a great day!

CMC SSM032 and SUDBURY049 Joint Ride

Saturday, July 11 2015

Members of CMCSSM032 rode east Saturday morning to Blind River to meet CMC riders from the Sudbury049 chapter.  The meet up had been planned as part of Sudbury's weekend ride to Sault Ste. Marie.

After lunch together at the Lakeview Inn and watching the Blind River Community Day parade, the group split into two for the ride to St. Joseph Island.  CMCSSM032 first officer, EchoBay had arranged to lead the group on a ride around the scenic island with a stop and tour of historic Fort St. Joseph before continuing on to the village of Hilton Beach where reservations for dinner had been arranged.  After dinner, the group rode to Richards Landing for a round of ice cream cones for dessert.  Thanks to the members of Sudbury049 for generously picking up the tab.

Following the St. Joseph Island tour, the group headed to Sault Ste. Marie about 8:45 pm where those from Sudbury had accommodations arranged.

Participants in the joint outing from Sudbury were Kathy and Jean, Mike and Cecile, Rick and Lynda, Greg and Roberta, Henry and Reg and Shirley who joined the group for lunch.

From SSM, participants were Terry and Noella, Brent and Dana, Shane and Sara, Kim and Christine, Luc and Aline, Andy, Jordan, Chris, Wayne and guest riders Mike, Todd and Mike.

Sudbury first officer, Kathy described the outing as an "awesome day" where "beautiful scenery was only surpassed by the exceptional company".

Everyone agreed it was a great outing, one that both groups will be talking about for quite awhile.
